This is a must-do if you're visiting Lancaster. We came hungry and weren't disappointed at all. The food was delicious and there was plenty of it! The fried chicken, buttered noodles and mashed potatoes were stand-outs! We had 15 people in our party and there was something for everyone. It was a perfect choice for a large group. Our server was wonderful - attentive and very nice. My 3-year old slept through the entire meal and woke up at the end and she was kind enough to pack me a little box of mashed potatoes and buttered noodles for him which he devoured. I would definitely recommend it for anyone visiting the area!

We chose to order from the menu, which was obviously a mistake. The food is very plain indeed..tasteless actually and not fresh. The chicken pot pie is actually chicken and dumplings. This was served to me barely warm. I bit into a dumpling...cold on the inside. My advice - stick with the fried chicken, corn fritters and chow chow (marinated vegetables). This place is like an institutional Cracker Barrel with a really weird odor when you walk in the door. We were touring this are on a Sunday and everything else was closed.

So nice. We did family style dining. Really nice waitress and service. Great food. It was nice talking to the other people at our table. Great atmosphere

Hostess and waitress were friendly. Short wait (10 minutes) on an August Sunday afternoon. Food was good. Sausage was the most flavorful. Chicken pie is really chicken and dumplings. I tried all 3 pies for dessert, just ask for a sliver of each. Gift shop tourist crap mostly made in China. Couldn't resist a shirt with sign posts to Intercourse, blue Ball, Paradise, etc.

I was not impressed at all, the food was average, a bit pricy, and you have to share a table and wait for the few selections they offer to come to you, our waitress was not very friendly (R), though a few other waitress's at the other tables, seemed more then excited to be working there, and everyone at our table felt the same way, it was a one and done for me and my husband

When "down home feel," is referenced, they are certainly referring to this eatery. It's a little more rustic "Cracker Barrel." The food is amazing, and the Apple pie desserts are a must. The staff was attentive and courteous. I'm a fan!

A glorified Golden Corral. It's all you can eat, but it mediocre food. The one good thing is it is family style and you are seated with other tourists. At best it's cheesy and touristy but, if not taken too seriously, fun (at worst it's awkward and pathetic.) I met some lovely people from France. That never would have happened in a normal restaurant. The food gets a 1, the experience gets a 4, but it's very server-dependent. I give it a 2 overall because I'm glad I did it once, but I certainly wouldn't do it again.

Always fun to do the family style meal, meet interesting people and good food with yummy dessert choices! We stayed at the adjoining hotel as well - very nice.

Definitely worth trying the family-style option. We met a great group of people at our table, and all the food was tasty (though some of it could have used a bit more salt, but you know, that's what salt shakers are for). If you're hungry, you'll get at least close to your $20 worth, but it's the experience, not the value. You're paying $20 for the privilege of trying all the things (and you can get more than 1 dessert too). If you check in on yelp, you may or may not get a coupon for the family style option. YMMV.

We enjoyed our meal. Food was good and the server was right on top of things ( bringing drinks we did not even realize our glass was almost empty) would definitely go back

A bit touristy but after waiting about an hour for our 15 minute Amish buggy ride and not much close by, this was a welcoming place afterwards. It feels like a Cracker Barrel but don't be deceived- their fried chicken was actually one of the most crispy and moist little fried bits in Amish country. I wasn't expecting much but as everyone usually goes for the feast, I wish we went to shared feast route instead of the a la carte just to have more fried chicken. The chicken corn soup with bits of hard boiled egg was surprisingly very filling and interesting. Share a cup so you could have a little taste. As for the chicken pot pie, think a deconstructed chicken noodle soup and that's what I would beat describe it. It was ok and interesting in concept but lackluster in taste for me. The stuffing was aiiiiiite and ended up putting lots of gravy in it to make up for the lack of gooey stuffing that I usually like. Check it out and spend some time in the country store while waiting for your table. L

Good place to eat.. From the salad up to the dessert are all great amish food..yummy!

Food was great! I recommend the family style. You might have to sit with another family if you have a party less than 10. The family we sat with was nice and added to the conversation. The roast beef was the best I have ever had. You have to try the shoo fly pie!!!!

I did not expect much from a restaurant called Plain & Fancy, but I was so wrong. The fried chicken was tender and tasty and the chicken pot pie was surprisingly good. We had to wait for a table, but not for too long. Service was excellent. Very attentive. Save room for dessert because it's worth it.

I love this place so much .I came here last year for just a weekend getaway for me and my hubbys anniversary and it was a lot of fun. The food is amazing we didn't do the buffet but we ordered different stuff . I gotten a really good dinner it was really fresh . Everyone there is really nice and sweet and the Bill afterwards was not bad . They were surprised when we left a tip I guess they don't do that in PA , cause of us coming from NY. I will deff come back here again and tey the buffet .

Food was incredible... The service was lacking and the hostess looked like she was going to take a stroke. With the quality of food, it is a shame the staff s not better organized and prepared. The hostess was like 50 and couldn't handle the flow of traffic. I heard her say to the girl next to her.. "Just quote long wait times so a lot of people won't stay. I run my own business and would kill an employee for that. All the money i spend to get people in the door, and you want them to go away...? They are paying your paycheck. They were not even that busy. We were quoted 45 minutes, but it was only 15.... That's when the wait started ... The kid busted his ass, but service was slow. We ordered apps and kids first as we were all in the car for a long time... 15 minutes later, we ordered entrees and they all came out together... wth? It was clean and the food was amazing!!! That's why the 4 stars.. 2 dining options.. Family style(limited choices/buffet) or a la carte... Let's just say I could tell who was here for the buffet and who was eating a la carte. We thought about it, but chose to have our own table. I'm not going into the reason as I will sound judgmental. Believe it or not the Hot wings were incredible!! and the Corn Fritters are a must!! We also ate the Turkey croquettes.. They were amazing(took me back to my old CYO banquets!!!)

That was the best fried chicken and sausage I've ever had! If you are just visiting Lancaster, be sure to choose the "Amish Farm Feast" option instead of ordering from the menu. The family-style tables are awesome, you can sample all the good food and you may even talk with people from all over the world. My table was an "International" table, there were local people, telling you about Amish culture, and people from Poland, Germany, France, Puerto Rico, England, and I'm from China. Too bad I don't live in Lancaster, I want to go back there and have the fried chicken one more time.

  • David L.

I gave them one star because we expected an authentic amish restaurant and this is simply a restaurant that talks "about" the amish. We did not even see any amish wait staff. Their wasn't even any acorn squash on the menu. I know there are real amish restaurants here somewhere because I've been to them before, but this isn't one of them. The waitstaff and the food was excellent however.

First stop on our trip to Lancaster. Place is non pretentious and clean. Warm rolls serve with whipped butter and apple butter, got half full from eating it, so good! We ordered Roast Beef, Fried Chicken and Meatloaf with sides, all were excellent. Waitstaff are really nice. Highly recommend if you're really hungry as servings are really big.

We dined here yesterday for my mother's birthday. She received a coupon from their mailing list. Our server, Leeann, was TERRIBLE. She embarrassed my parents twice, was extremely loud and horrid. She even dared to start a fight with me because I wanted a third glass of water. I loved this restaurant growing up, however the customer service is seriously lacking in this restaurant. Instead of talking in the kitchen about how terrible your tables are, you should be at your tables filling water glasses and providing the service that your customers came for. The food was just okay. The chicken was good, the pork was bland, but cooked well, as was the corn and beans. The chicken pot pie had no seasoning whatsoever. The mashed potatoes were the best dish. All of our table's food came out ice cold so perhaps that has something to do with it. Upon leaving the restaurant, I went to advise the seating hostess of her wait staff. She was on her cell phone at the hostess podium. I told her about my experience, ignoring that she was on her phone. Get off your phone on the dining room floor! Terrible experience, terrible staff, terrible food! Not the same restaurant this once was!

Plain & Fancy isn't so fancy but that's not a bad thing. If you are in Lancaster and are in the mood for some hearty comfort food, this is a good choice. They have two options to choose from. You can order off the menu or for about $18.95 you get a family style feast.

    (2)
  • Jennifer M.

Came here for lunch with my family in July. Was immediately offered the family style all you can eat, which would be fine if we were big eaters but at $22.00 per person I don't think we would of gotten out money's worth. We did the a la carte instead, my husband is not a big meat eater and I was so surprised when he said he really enjoyed his meatloaf. My children each enjoyed there food. How do I know that they did there wasn't one crumb left on their plates. I had the fried chicken which was delish with the sides. The a la carte prices are very reasonable and a must go to when you are in Amish country. Our Server was gracious and very attentive, despite it being very busy.

We ordered off the menu and did not do the family style option. I was really excited as they advertised themselves as serving farm fresh food. Wow what a disappointment! We ordered the fried chicken with mashed potatoes and corn. It was awful. I am not a critical foodie type of person, but honestly it really was awful. The potatoes tasted like they came from a box, the corn from a cheap can and the fried chicken was tough. I would compare the food to an all you can eat gross buffet. I was planning on getting the sour cream apple pie but after the disappointing meal, I wasn't even open to trying it. Keep driving and pass on this place.

Don't be anti-social nor shy about sharing the table with complete strangers. Everybody's family in Plain and Fancy! Pass the fried chicken! Could I get the sweet corn chowder? More chow chow please! Come hungry because they'll keep refilling the table and the food is delicious! The best part is, whatever food food you like, you can purchase it at the gift store and attempt to make them at home. It's just never the same. My daughter loves playing in the tiny playground in the front to work off the food. By the way, the adults too can enjoy the playground!

Have been going here yearly for 17 years. Yes they have the option to order off the menu now, but that's not what this restaurant is about, it's about a family style meal, if that isn't your thing, I'd probably go elsewhere. The fried chicken and roast beef are unbelievably good as well as the sides which include brown butter noodles and mashed potatoes. Don't be afraid to try something new here and don't be afraid to ask for more. Will continue to be a stop every time we come to lancaster!

  • Kenny D.

We often stop here when visiting Lancaster. The food is absolutely delicious. Some of the best roast beef I've ever tasted. Also some menu winners are the fried chicken , buttered noodles, mashed potatoes. If you don't mind sitting with strangers , the family feast is the better way to go . For a few dollars more it's all you can eat and more to chose from.

    (5)
  • Tiffany Y.

The food and service was OK, nothing special. I think that these meals are overrated. They are just regular food--salad, rolls, fried chicken, sausage, mashed potatoes, corn, pie, etc. You share the food family-style at a table with strangers. After trying a few of these meals in Lancaster, I will never try them again. If you want to try one, go for it. They are all similar. Plain and Fancy does offer tours of their grounds.

I had the family feast which was fantastic! I really enjoyed the FRESH FOODS they provide and hospitable service. everything from the fried chicken to the desserts were fresh. This type of place is nice for groups and families. Just make sure you make a reservation to eat.

Been to several of these restaurants in my time. I definitely was not impressed by this one. The best thing was the fried chicken. Other than that everything tasted bland and not "homemade". Would not go to this one again. We did enjoy talking to the people we sat with tho. My husband had never been in this part of the country so we made a detour to go thru "Amish country". The scenery in the area was beautiful.

I visited Plain & Fancy Farm Restaurant during a quick weekend get away in March. We were definitely in the area during the off season so was not expecting an amazing experience, but even with average expectations we were disappointed. We stopped for dinner on a Sunday night. The restaurant's website stated they took sit down reservations until 7:30 pm. We arrived without a reservation at 7:06 pm. When we walked up there was a sign on the check in area saying they were closed. Not only that - but another couple walked up at the same time who had made reservations online for 7:00 pm. The husband walked into the dining area to inquire and was told that it's the off season so they close early. What? Then update your website! We returned for lunch the next day. There were exactly four of us in the restaurant. Myself and my boyfriend and the couple from the night before. The food was good - the service not so good. We ordered a la carte rather than the family style. The server took our order but was barely listening to us. After ordering she checked on us twice & both times we asked her for something & she just walked away as if she didn't even hear us. I will not be back. While the food was good - it was not spectacular and the experiences I had out weighed the food.

First I will start off saying that their fried chicken was so good, it was crispy on the outside, and moist on the inside. Perfect. We did it family style, and even though we didn't know the people we were sharing our food with, it wasn't too bad. Everyone was nice, and was sharing the bowls. In addition to the fried chicken, you get a variety of Amish foods. I liked the rolls and apple butter, and the Shoo Fly Pie for dessert. If you don't mind meeting people, I suggest the family option. It's $20 for adults, and $10 for kids 12 and under. Service was okay. They have a gift shop too. Make sure you check in there, and Yelp will give you a $3 off coupon till December.

This place is terrible. Food grooms , they feed you family style ( fried chicken, buttered egg noodles - ( 1 bowl for 8 people and very slips to give a second) , salted roast beef, and chicken pot pie . Food is extremely salty, taste terrible and is pure crap. Waitress don't want to be there . Dessert is limited and try to get seconds , ha, ha. We had a family get together weekend and since We couldn't get into Millers , Millers sent us here . The next morning and for the next morning , I had the runs . We should have gone to McDonalds Do yourself a favor and go some place else. This place is pure crap

Went with friends for lunch. Don't miss the chance for the family lunch. You not only get tons of food but a new family for the day. Best pumpkin pie I ever had. Great variety of all courses and couldn't find anything I didn't like.

The restaurant is located inside a small local shopping center (farm goods and gifts), so when we discovered it in May-2012 we expected an ordinary touristic spot. There were 11 or 12 of us, and we, as a group, were recommended to order a family style "fest". So we tasted various meet, mashed potato, corn, desserts. Being a fan of healthy food, I still tried their fried chicken. All our friends at the table agreed that it was really special. Overall, we had a great and really festive experience at the big table when one round of dishes was followed by another. So remembering this, while traveling around the Amish country, we deliberately went for lunch to this restaurant again last week. They still have their wonderful fried chicken and other delicious meal. Consider that the meal is very substantial there. The service is friendly, they try to be fast, because there's always a waiting line. Our waiting time in the both cases was about 20 minutes. I do recommend this place for a home style substantial meal in a farm land. What is also convenient: there is a large parking lot, and a buggy ride station is here, too.

Awesome! Chicken so juicy and tasty! Amazing food! The fried chicken and Apple crisp were to die for!!

  • LeeAnn M.

This place was okay. I got the build your own platter with the fried chicken and traditional pot pie. While the fried chicken was awesome, the Pot pie was just a bowl a mush. I followed up with the sour cream apple pie for dessert, which once again was just mediocre. Overall, service was weak cause the server kept disappearing on us! But all was well, I guess.

My wife and I went here after taking their buggy ride. We chose the Amish Farm Feast, expecting a buffet. They seated us at a table with a family and another couple, who were all half way through their meal. The waitress rushed us through the meal, bringing out small portions of mediocre food for the table. The experience was terrible. Spend the same amount of money and go to Miller's, where they know how to make really good food and serve it in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere.

    (1)
  • Tanya W.

The farm feast is great for tourists, (tons of food) but for locals I recommend just ordering off the menu. The food is great and the service has always been awesome every time I've been there. My husband loves the fact that you can also get a beer here.

Store and grounds are nice to walk around in. Ordered off the ala carte menu. Fried chicken was good not great like some are raving about. Vegetables did not seem fresh like u might expect in amish. Chicken pot pie was disappointing, tasted like canned soup and some chicken thrown in. Dining atmosphere very similar to cracker barrell, loud with not enough wait staff

On a recent trip to Lancaster, we found this restaurant. We loved it! It was such a fun experience! The service was wonderful! The hostess was pleasant and helpful. The waitress was pleasant and attentive. The meal we chose was served family style. Depending on the size of your party, you may be seated with other patrons. The meal comes to the table and the party passes around the dishes. We had more than enough of everything. The waitress was attentive and brought more of what we needed. The fried chicken was the star of the meal. Everything was good, but the fried chicken really stood out. My kids are begging us to go back there sometime. I can guarantee if we are visiting the area, we will be back!

Plain and fancy is a great place to grab breakfast, lunch, or dinner. At first I was a little skeptical about eating a place that was family style but was pleasantly surprised to meet a lovely group of people. As far as their food goes you get a lot for your money, but it is nothing special. Just your typical Amish/American style food. I definitely recommend their shoofly pie if your like pecan pie or cinnamon flavored desserts.

Food nice and fresh. Our waitress seemed preoccupied. My hubby ordered turkey platter w veggies. He got turkey breading and mashed white potatoes He ate it all! Potatoes and breading are not on his diet I had the chicken corn soup. It took her three trips yo make sure it was milk/creme free. Turns out it was. Tasted great, the broth had some butter in it, nice nice

Stingy restaurant! The food I ordered was not worth the money I paid. I ordered a "Build your own" plate. I have no idea that they are charging $2.50 for an extra plate without extra food. When I asked them afterwards, they insisted that because it was written on the menu , it was reasonable. The food was so so and the portion is small, especially for the dish I ordered.

  • Ben R.

I read all the reviews before going and this place far surpassed my expectations. The food was amazing and the atmosphere was great. It is a little touristy with the big gift shop but the atmosphere and food at the restaurant was amazing for the price. I sampled everything and there was nothing I didnt like except maybe the apple cobbler dessert. My favorites were the starter pickled salad that they serve, the fried chicken, and the Shoefly pie. Sitting community style is a bit odd and sharing platters seems a bit strange but it was nice talking to new people and just added to the charm for me. I will definitely come back again next time I am in Lancaster.

Fried chicken, fried chicken, fried chicken. Wow we love it. The food is ample. The flavor and taste are excellent. My friend really likes the roast beef, and I like the sausage. The chicken pot pie is unusual, but good. The bread, corn, mashed potatoes and other side dishes are all good. The kids love the noodles. The apple crisp dessert, pies and unlimited ice cream are all fantastic. The price is very reasonable for really, really good home cooking. The service is excellent.

A decent place to eat some "Amish" food family style. Not sure if there's a more authentic way to try the local cuisine other than sitting with an actual Amish family, although I guess it's pretty close. The price is a little high, but considering it's all you can eat, it's really not a bad deal. Plus you can get a discount if you check out their website beforehand. The fried chicken and sausage were easily the best parts of the meal. The other dishes were OK at best.

We came here for dinner to finish off our amish tour for the day. We did not want to stuff our faces so we opted for a la carte dining. This place has a nice lodge feel to it. It's in the same building as the gift store. The bf ordered 2 piece chicken with mash and buttered pasta. Only complaint was the pasta was drenched in butter, they do not skimp. The fried chicken was moist and tasty. I ordered the fish and chips which included a side of slaw. The fish itself was moist, perfectly fried. No complaints with my dish. Oh almost forgot the iced raisin bread. Ordered it after reading other yelpers. It was delicious. The icing is great because it was not overtly sweet. We ended up taking it home.

  • Steve A.

We've been a few times. The right way to go is the smorgasbord, it just feels more authentic and you get to sample all of the foods that make PA Dutch Country great. Unlimited portions equal extra stars to me! Food's delicious, a lot of things don't taste like you'd expect (cole slaw, sour cream apple pie) - and that's fine, because they're still great. Five stars means I recommend it and I'll be coming back again next time, just like always. (By the way, if you have young children, you always have the option of dining alone. You should use discretion.)

Had dinner here tonight with the whole family. Everything was very good: salad, vegetables, roast beef, sausage, and fried chicken. A couple of highlights: 1. The salad...yes, the salad. The greens were tender and vibrant green. I asked the server if the greens were local and she wasn't sure, but I've rarely seen quality like that without it being locally grown. She did offer that they grew the radishes. 2. The fried chicken -- goes without saying really. 3. The roast beef -- FLAVORFUL! I could taste hints of rosemary and garlic and the jus was worthy of drinking as a beverage. Why not 5 stars? The mashed potatoes WERE homemade, but that turned out to be a bad thing tonight. When potatoes are boiled too long they take on a great deal of water, which was the case here. The texture was non-existent and flavor was absent. A place like this HAS to get something like this right. Overall I was so impressed with the meal that this was easily overlooked.

This is an Amish restaurant in the second largest Amish population in the country. The food is fresh and reminds you of good old fashioned country home cookin'. There's roast beef, sausages, and fried chicken. There's also lots of sides, salads, rolls, and of course yummy desserts.

This review will be of the gift shop as the restaurant was not open when we were there. You probably think this is strictly a tourist trap, but it is not, In addition to the usual shirts, signs and what not, there are some interting things tha can be placed thoughout the home. This is the kind of place that you can find something for everyone. Of course we walked out with nothing but the tourist stuff.

Despite the hugely touristy trappings of this restaurant, it is an efficient operation with really good food and service. We choose to order off the menu, not the sharing farm to table menu. I had chicken pot pie which was yummy and comforting, lots of noodles, with dried corn which was great, sweet and a nice side dish and a side of chow chow. Husband had club sandwich which he said was good. The server was lovely and sweet, Rachel was her name. The rolls came with apple butter, honestly, I wish we had the whole huge meal but it was 100 degrees outside. I was impressed that his hugely busy place had such good food. No view from the dining room I was in, lots of families with young kids and tourists. A nice surprise.

I have been coming to Amish country for about 5 years and I have no idea what I was missing ! The food was really good. The dinner rolls were warm and fresh. The salad was dressed with the right amount of dressing and the Chow chow was really good. Lemonade, ice tea, milk and coffee are include in the feast price which I was very surprised about. Then the dinner came , fried chicken , seasoned really well eye round roast beef, fresh green beans, mashed potatoes, brown butter noodles, corn and some really good Amish chicken pot pie . The dessert was served with coffee and vanilla ice cream , the pies were really good , apple sour cream was my favorite. They also had shoo fly . Apple crisp, chocolate cake. All the food is all you can eat, but to be honest the portions that they give you are perfect and there is not a lot of waste . The price was 19.95 for adult and 9.95 per kid . If you use the coupon deal on yelp you can save 3.00 per person up yo 6 people . The there is a real value in the meal since there is a coupon and the beverage Is include.

The first time I came here, it was on a spontaneous trip in May with my older younger brother (W), his two kids, me with the crew. My brother found a coupon for a buggy ride that was with this restaurant. I've never been to Amish country and it was on my bucket list. The restaurant is tucked in the back of the actual store. We were seated promptly at a table in the far back of the restaurant. Which I was grateful because out of the crew and my brother's kids, 4 of the kids were the age of 3 and under. The waiter came and explained that we had to share the table with any other guests who came along. I looked at him like he was nuts. We have 6 kids total at the table, who would want to eat with us? But he said that was their standard or we could pay more to have a table just for us. Bummerville. And the pricing was already more than I was expecting The waiter told us the menu and not too long after gave us the appetizers. The raisin bread with their icing stands out the most. The kids liked the bread with the apple butter. The actual meal itself was great! Their chicken was good as well as their mashed potatoes and mixed vegetables. My youngest didn't want any of the food but the raisin bread. My older two and my brother's kids ate better than that and loved everything there. Halfway through our meal we were joined by two older women. They were in PA to enjoy a girls week out. They didn't seem to mind the kids and it wasn't bad sharing a table with complete strangers. All in all, it was a wonderful visit, everyone was able to eat.

My sister and I spent the day in the area doing all the touristy things, Amish buggy ride, farmers markets, antique, craft and quilt shops. The Amish farm feast is well worth the price. Especially if you have a coupon. The fried chicken is excellent. Chicken pot pie delicious. All of the food is great. Our server could not have been friendlier. We'll be back!

This place is run of the mill dutch country cooking. Not special but not bad. You can smell the fried chicken from the parking lot. That's what I had and it tasted pretty good (though parts of the breading came off in large pieces which I'm told is a sign of JV fried chicken making). Mashed potatoes and mixed vegetables were maybe slightly above average. Between the veggies and the potatoes, I'm sure I ate a stick of butter. The place is similar to a cracker barrel. And there's an AYCE smorgasbord option if you're in the mood to get fatter. In summary, if you're looking for a convenient, reasonably priced Dutch Country meal, this place will scratch the itch. But if you're willing to do a little more homework, I'm sure there's a better option in the same area serving similar food.

5 stars. 5 thumbs up. 5...children...(Studio C reference). Anywhere that serves fried chicken could take a few tips from this heaven on earth. And don't even get me started on the mashed potatoes. They taste like they were mashed right before they arrived on the table. We are on our way to D.C. and I would stop here anytime.

Once upon a time my family would go to the Pennsylvania Dutch area every summer and there were two stops we always made. One was Good and Plenty restaurant and the other was Plain Anf Fancy. Both serve family style and we share the table with strangers. For us the wonderful foods in good portion and sharing tales with other travelers made this the perfect place to dine. Good and Plenty went first dropping in food portions. Plain and Fancy has doen the same to a degree but I found over the years this food, especially the fried chicken is wonderful! We continue to come to Plain and Fancy and I can recommend them for a fun family atmosphere with plenty to eat.

Not impressed! We did the farm feast last night and the only things worth mentioning are the fried chicken and mashed potatoes. The rest of the food was average at best, the service was not great and the deserts were terrible. It is just another tourist trap for those who prefer quantity over quality. There are so many better places for real Amish cooking. EDIT: ANOTHER REVIEW WRITTEN BY MY WIFE. She dragged me here, & then INSISTED we eat at a long table WITH PERFECT STRANGERS, (even though we could have had a private table!!!) something I HATE FREAKIN' DOING. I AM NOT ON VACATION TO TALK TO OTHER PEOPLE. I COULD CARE LESS about their trip. Or listen to their kids scream. Or watch as some a-hole w/ no table manners scratch his nuts or pick his nose. (YES, that actually happened) Oh, & all the food sucked, including the fried chicken, which I HATE anyway. Can you tell I didn't like this place even a little? STEER CLEAR!!!

I just love any chance I have to come back here. The food is good, flavorful and so satisfying. This time around, my mom and I went alone and sat for the Amish Feast with two other groups of strangers. By the end of the meal we were hugging each other goodbye and exchanging information. Great food bringing people together and forcing personal contact and connection , great service. Sometimes you may catch a hostess or waiter with a bit of an attitude or maybe slow to cater to your needs, but they are busy!! There are rooms full of people devouring all you can eat food with many requests and I think it serves no purpose to be inpatient or rude to them. I'd rather wait a little longer for more chicken and really enjoy it than be at another place with average , sometimes tasteless food.

A few friends and I were visiting the area since we've lived in Hershey for 3 years and haven't visited Amish country. We wanted to try some local dishes and this place was perfect since they have a feast for $17 (with coupon). The food was pretty good and it was nice to sample a variety of dishes. The fried chicken and roast beef were definitely the best of the main dishes. I'm glad I got to try shoofly pie, but it's terrible and I don't know how anyone could eat it. Overall, it's a nice place to stop by and try some PA Dutch cooking.

Avoid this tourist trap if you can. The mega-gigantic "AMISH EXPERIENCE" sign by the road should have been a warning sign, but we stopped by for a late lunch anyway while cruising through the Amish country. That was a mistake. This place is completely designed to profit from the tourists eager for anything that resembles the Amish. The fried chicken was okay, nice and crispy but definitely NOT worth a detour. We were really disappointed by the famous buttered noodles, which turned out to be farfalle pasta with some butter and bland taste. Finally, the grilled veggies were soggy, watery, and the closest they have ever been to a grill was probably when the master chef was walking past it on his way from the freezer. But hey, if the weather is good, it's a nice place to stop by and stretch your legs for a bit on the benches outside, while you observe the frenzied crowds lining up for their spot on the 'authentic buggy ride'.

This place was okay. 3 stars for average food. The one really yummy thing here is the apple butter. I bought some in the gift shop after lunch and it was cheap. For lunch I had the fried chicken with mashed potatoes and cinnamon apples. The fried chicken was okay. Pretty standard, not too oily, crispy skin. Mashed potatoes were smooth, almost too smooth where I wondered if they were made from spuds (like instant potatoes). Didn't care for the apples, it was too sweet. My husband had the chicken pot pie. It comes with noodles, not a crust. My husband found it bland. He added some hot sauce to give it some flavor but still wasn't happy with it. The strawberry Lancaster beer was yummy...so my husband said.

...my husband and I were starving by the time we sat down to eat because we had been on the Amish tours all day...I ordered the corn soup to start with and a shrimp platter with cole slaw and steamed veg...my husband ordered the classic fried chicken with a spicy-sweet tasting cole slaw and mashed potatoes...the food was really good! The shrimps and chicken were battered and fried to perfection! As the name of the restaurant indicates- though the food may seem "plain"... By virtue of probably using simple ingredients- the food tasted quite fancy even without a whole lotta garnishment. I totally enjoyed the food!

Best fried chicken ever hands down! Delish absolutely delish. Corn fritters were a pleasant surprise. I also had a taste of the stuffing with their turkey dinner and it was on point. I don't think anything on this menu was not amazing. GREAT home cooking, we went back two days in a row, that's how impressed we were with the place. They got four stars because our waitress the first day was very lacking in personality, but our server the next day totally made up for it. We told our second server we were in a hurry to make it in time for a tour and we were seated in and out in 30 mins flat. Don't miss this place if you are in the Lancaster area.

While I understand the concept, I don't think the average person and/or party should be MADE to wait until enough people arrive to fill up a table. And certainly not for the prices that they charge. If you're going to do that, then for pete's sake have the decency to discount the meal or something. We were seated with a large family with 3 very young, very active, and VERY vocal children. Since it was just the two of us, it was a bit unfair to expect us to sit in the shadows of a large party that catered towards the children. The entire meal was a bit awkward as the family seemed a bit intimidated by us tattooed city folk, and mostly talked among themselves or spent the meal serving, disciplining, or cleaning up after the children. Except for two other tables, the place was empty. That's really what bothers me the most. The meal itself? Well, I get that this type of food is meant to be bland, and it did not disappoint there. The roast beef was VERY tender though, and quite delicious. The raisin bread was addictive. The rest of the meal was lost on me as I sat there desperately wishing for some Lou Malnati's deep dish. I guess we all have our own interpretations of what comfort food is to us.

I'm not even sure where to start with this place. I took my parents here for an "authentic Amish experience." What we experienced was a small step up from a cafeteria dinner. Let's start with the bizarre seating. We were behind a small tour bus and had to wait over an hour for a table. There weren't many customers besides the bus so we imagined the dining room was quite small - owing to the promised "Amish Family" dining experience. Imagine our surprise when we were finally seated in a HUGE dining room that was only 1/4th full. Why the wait? As the night went on it became obvious that the place was trying to schedule as few waitresses as possible. The Amish Family meal options (vs. Ala Cart) requires 10-12 people per table so you are seated with other parties - supposedly because the Amish eat in large groups (?). Problem is, the guests we were seated with were told they would have to wait longer for the Ala Cart meal, so they instead opted for the Family Meal (the more expensive option). I processed this while surveying the nearly empty dining room with dozens of empty 2 and 4 seat tables. They felt manipulated into the Family/more pricey option. The ambiance was depressing - dark, pedestrian, and cold (literally - they seated us in the back corner next to the air ducts, despite 3/4ths of the restaurant being empty). Secondly, the service was close to the worst I've ever experienced. Servers were attending several tables of 10-12 people - our server seemed to have at least 2-3 of these. We waited 20 minutes for the appetizers, nearly 45 minutes for our main dishes, and close to an hour for desert. This is INCREDIBLY awkward when you are seated with strangers trying to make small talk. The worst part is that she didn't check on us in between - we had no refills and it was tough to get more of an item that had run out (frustrating since you're paying more for all-you-can-eat family style). Thirdly, and more importantly, with the exception of the fried chicken, the food is not good. When you think "Amish" you imagine farm fresh food. The chicken and beef (though a bit flavorless) tasted fresh, the rest obviously came out of a can or box, some of it had to have been microwaved. Nearly half the dishes arrived cold - mainly because the waitress had too many customers to attend. By the time desert arrived, I was feeling scammed on the food so I decided to probe. "Local home-made ice cream" she announced, setting the dish on the table. I asked her if it was actually home-made. She conceded that it was not, but that it *was* made locally. When I asked where, she had no idea. I imagine the same was true of the frozen vegetables, boxed potatoes, processed sausage and salad. The majority of the meal was below the quality of even mid-range buffets like Ryans or Golden Corral. The desserts were actually good, but each guest had to prod the server for second helpings or to try more than one item (despite the "all you can eat" price) - she was obviously trying to rush the desert service in hopes no one would ask for more than one. I'm sure the owners will insist that the food is fresh but if you've ever made homemade potatoes, or tasted fresh garden beans, it's pretty easy to spot imposters. The food is the most frustrating part of the experience because it is touted to be fresh - as if it all came from local Amish farms. There's simply no way - again, it's easy to differentiate between low-quality frozen and even mediocre quality fresh. This is definitely not the latter. I'm sure the place is popular because it's about the only advertised "Amish" restaurant around Lancaster. They are very proud of being featured on Man Vs. Food. I'm not sure what the host tasted on the show, but there's very little to recommend here. Overpriced, terrible service, and food you could make out of your freezer. If there was ever a place that defined the phrase "tourist trap," Plain and Fancy is it.

Was visiting Lancaster with family and a co-rider on a buggy ride highly recommended this place. We chose the Amish Farm feast and loved the quality of food. I personally liked the chicken pot pie, roast beef and the dried sweet corn. My wife loved the salads, the bread and the chicken. Kids liked the fried chicken very much. My only grouse was that the desserts were not 'pass-the-platter'. I loved the 'Shoofly pie', which is a speciality out here, and wanted my wife and kids to try it. But there was no second helping. We bought the pie from the store. I am a dessert lover and was saving up myself too :-( The service was rushed and so-so. When a kid in my table asked for a second helping of ice-cream bowl, there was a rolling of eyes from the lady. But I would still recommend this place for lunch for those who are visiting the place for the first time. It is a different kind of public dining style which is worth the experience, and the food quality is good.

The restaurant came highly recommended by the Amish View Inn's staff (next door). Can't understand why. The employees were rude, took well over 1 hour to get a table and the food was WAY inferior to similar places like Cracker Barrel (about 15 minutes away) for at least twice the price. The chicken pot pie had hardly any chicken and the ham steak was hard and tasteless. Don't ruin your experience in this beautiful part of the Amish country and skip this restaurant completely.

Our family of 8 chose to eat here Easter Sunday because we were also celebrating a special anniversary. We were sharing a table with 5 other adults. The dishes were only half full when the waitress brought them to our table which means that half of us didn't get any food the first time around. After a very long time, she brought some dishes that were again only half full. We could not fill our plates with everything at once and do not care to eat this way. The food was not hot, barely warm. It appeared our waitress was taking care of 2 tables at the same time. When the dessert came, there was going to be 4 items that I assumed would also be passed around family style. Instead, the waitress asked us what we would like and when she brought mine, it was a very small sliver of cake. I was so shocked and then discovered we could have the other one's too if we want. The waitress always stood at the other end of the table to talk and we never heard anything she said because it was very noisy. So I'm thinking she mentioned about the desserts to those other people. Because the food was not hot, the meal was just mediocre to me and didn't have a wow factor. After 2 hours, we were finally done, very disappointed, and wishing we had gone to the other famous family style restaurant not too far away where we know they know how to serve a family style meal. Needless to say, we won't be returning!

Good, solid farm-fresh food. No frills comfort food that is locally grown. It's a great place to stop if you want to have an "Amish-style" meal and do a little souvenir shopping. Plus, they have buggy rides outside which are actually really fun and informative. You can do all-you-can-eat family style dining for about $20/person or sit down and do the regular order off the menu style.

Stopped here on vacation in Pennsylvania and wanted something that was in the Pennsylvania Dutch area. I had the chicken fingers which were average, but for sides I had mashed potatoes and sweet dried corn and those were phenomenal. I also shared a piece of shoo-fly pie with my parentes which was totally delicious and inspired me to try to make it myself at home, we even bought a postcard with the recipe! The rolls with apple butter to start off the meal were very good too. My mother had a reuben which she said was good, and my father had meatloaf which he said was average, but he also enjoyed his sides very much. I wish we had done the Amish family-style feast, but we weren't that hungry so we decided to order off the menu.

This place is a tourist trap. It's like a Cracker Barrel with it's gift shop just outside the dining area but with worse food. Service as OK but nothing special. The food was not traditional PA Ducth or Amish from what I know about that diet. I got the Fried Chicken meal which was recommeded as their one of their house speciaties but it was just so-so. My wife got butterfly shrimp which as about average. I'd pass on this one.

Hearty Amish food, either served family style or a la carte. Don't look for what is considered healthy on the menu. We had the family style. Appetizers were a tomato salad and cole slaw. Lame to say the least. Meats were good, but fried chicken a bit greasy, and sausage a bit underseasoned. Vegetables were outstanding. Yes, dried sweet corn is a unique flavor that not all will like. Dessert was limited, but shoo fly pie was amazing. Again, this restaurant is designed for tourists and delivers food of reasonable quality for the price.

The food was ok. The waitress failed to mention that she added gratuity to the bill for our group of 6 so she ended up with a 25% tip for way less than stellar service. I understand that this is customary in some restaurants, but it was not listed on the menu.

This restaurant was DELICIOUS!! Is it 'real Amish food' Obviously not. But we drove through on a Sunday and it was one of the only things open. I'm not sure why everyone is complaining about the group eating situation. You don't have to do that. You have a choice between that or ordering from the regular menu. Yes, everyone in your party has to agree on one or the other but big deal. The food was to die for! I was slightly apprehensive when we walked In and it resembled a local version of a Cracker Barrell. However, the food was outstanding! Whoever said it tasted out of the box has clearly never had quality homemade food. I highly recommend the fried chicken, mashed potatoes, and butter noodles. The service wasn't the most amazing but it wasn't bad by any means, they just didn't bug you the whole time. Our drinks were constantly full and we left more than satisfied. Also, BIGGEST bathroom I have ever seen in a restaurant! And extremely clean!!

Went here on a vacation to try out "Family Style Dining" in a restaurant setting. We had a great time largely in part due to the group of friends [strangers to us] that joined us at our table. To get to the restaurant you have to pass through a "gift shop" of sorts which is not my cup of tea but not horrible, cleanly kept with very touristy pieces. The place is styled in a country manner which I am pretty sure do to the tourist trap of the place was to be expected. We were seated promptly and everyone waitstaff/host were very courteous. People we were with... The table we were sat at seated 12 we were a family of five and were placed together with a group of "lifelong" friends. At first the typical shyness sets in when you are placed in that sort of situation, you think will you get along with the other people or is this going to be uncomfortable the entire time. We were thankfully in for a really great night. It turns out once we got to talking that we were all from within 10 miles of each other back home [4hrs away] how ironic is that. The conversation lasted through the meal everyone including the kids [two of mine are rather shy and even they warmed up quickly] had fun. Food... I wouldn't say the food was spectacular but it was rather enjoyable. Heres a breakdown of what was served. Starters Chow Chow...DIDN'T TRY Pepper Cabbage...DIDN'T TRY Bakery-fresh Raisin Bread...EVIL SWEET DESSERT-LIKE SUPER YUMMY CONCOCTION THAT YOU EAT WAY TO MUCH OF LOL! Potato Rolls...TASTY Entrees Made-from-Scratch, Golden Fried Chicken...NOT THE BEST BUT NOT BAD, VERY GENERIC Roast Eye-Round of Beef...VERY TASTY, THIRDS WERE BROUGHT TO THE TABLE Chicken Pot Pie with homemade noodles...TASTY Plain & Fancy's Own Baked Sausage...DIDN'T TRY Served with Real Mashed Potatoes with Gravy...NOT THE BEST BUT NOT BAD, VERY GENERIC Egg Noodles with Browned Butter...STRANGE Dried Sweet Corn...DIDN'T TRY Green Beans...NOT BAD Desserts Sour Cream Apple Crumb Pie...SURPRISINGLY VERY TASTY Pumpkin Pie...TASTY Wet Bottom Shoo-Fly Pie...DIDN'T TRY Vanilla Ice Cream The waitress was constantly checking on us verifying if we needed a refill on any of our food item's or drinks. All in all I would definitely recommend trying this place out once if not for the food but for the experience of eating this way. I am not sure I would return as there is better places out there.

I had been visiting the Plain and Fancy farm since I was a child. It was unbelievable then, even though the wait was long because they couldn't handle all the people that wanted to eat there. I am not fond of the new and improved place. I guess that it is good for people that never saw the old farm. I don't visit there anymore for dinner. I have been to the shop and it is nice, but I miss the old authentic place. It used to be a pleasure to meet people at the family style tables, but it is not as much fun anymore.

Our family did the a la carte menu and thought it fine. Think the family feast is a better price and provides better options. Hubby had turkey platter and I had the grouper, blah....probably wouldn't go back. Kids options were standard, nuggets, hot dog, etc... nothing special.

We just finished an excellent Aaron & Jessica's Farm Tour buggy ride and were hungry and decided to stop in at the Plain & Fancy restaurant (right next door) in Bird in Hand, PA. They gave us a 10% off coupon. We were all hungry for sure and this place did not disappoint! My wife and I had the roast beef dinner special for $10.95. Delicious tenderly cooked roast beef topped with a delicious brown gray was served. Very excellent!!! Roast beef was lean and tender. Extra gravy was provided for the REAL mashed potatoes. Not to mention a scrumtous bread stuffing! For my second side (included in the price) I had a fresh crispy garden salad with delicious cucumbers, tomatoes, and onions on topped of mixed greens. For beverage I had a glass of the local Lancaster beer (I like to try the local flavor out) which was very good, cold, served in a tall glass and reasonably priced! Our servers were probably not Amish by any means of the imagination, however the service was great! After ordering, a basket of hot piping buns were served with a sweet and very good apple butter (real farm fresh butter is available as well). My daughter had the hot turkey sandwich with mashed potatoes (it came with a bit of cranberry sauce). She really enjoyed every bite (and took some home for a late night snack)! It looked good and it is something that I would of ordered. My son enjoyed the crispy spicy nuggetts. (although he is no fan of the blue cheese and buffalo sauce). They put us in a side room which was very plain and if you needed to use the restroom it was quite a distance shared with the gift shop! They could use some more decos. The room was kind of sterile. The value was excellent... With the 10% discount it was only $50 (not including tax). Everyone was full.. I was ready for a nap! EXCELLENT! Definately check it out again!

We went to this place a couple of times because my daughter really liked the kids menu here. The food always tasted great here. I did get a stomach ache a couple of times after getting sandwiches here. After a couple of hours I was fine, everyone else in our party was fine.

Last weekend we were in Lancaster PA, and heard how good this place was, so we decided to give it a try. We made reservations for Saturday for 6:30, and still had to wait over 1 hr??? So what's the point!! They are very unorganized with people coming in giving their name and also when seating you! We were very unlucky for a couple of reasons, first, the waitress and woman who put the plates and silver wear on the table actually thru them!! I know they were very busy, but come on!!! Really made us feel welcome!! ( not) we know it was family style, but the people at the other end of the table did not pass any food down to our end! I also blame the waitress for only putting the food at one end!! We watched other wAitresses, and they put food at both ends!! So disappointed !! Not to mention the bus loads of people that come there too!!The food was great, but won't go back, nor would I recommend it to friends!!!

This is one of those places that you eat, eat, eat... It's all family style, and you get to eat with other people (this may be good or bad depending on the "other people" lol). Well, if you are in the Lancaster area this place is on of my recommendations (Lancaster is filled with a few places like this). So stop by and get your eats on! Now they offer ala-cart menu (but it has to be the whole group)

Had the "Amish Farm Feast" today for lunch. For $18.95 ($15.95 if you print the $3 off coupon from their website), my friends and I sat at a table that seats about 12. 6 others joined our table and the feast began. We were first brought bread and light dishes. There were 2 baskets of rolls (white potato roll and a wheat/grain kind) that came with apple butter on the side (apple butter is a spread that has a buttery apple sauce taste to it). Two other baskets of bread were brought out as well - these contained a small loaf of raisin bread with whipped creamed butter on top of it. A dish of chow-chow (a famous Amish dish of picked veggies - highly recommend this!) and peppery coleslaw (very watery, vegetables were minced so fine it was like a slurry) also graced the table for all of us to share. For drinks, we had a choice of homemade lemonade, iced tea (sweetened or unsweetened - warning, they are both really sweet), hot tea & coffee. Next up were the hot entrees and sides. Two dishes of heavenly fried chicken were presented before us. The chicken was freshly cooked, a bit oily and less crispy than what Good N Plenty (the other famous family-style dinner place in the area) serves but the chicken I think was more flavorful here. We also were given roast-eye round of beef, chicken pot pie (which is more like chicken & dumplings in style except the dumplings were home-made noodles) & sausage. For sides, we had buttered carrots (VERY buttery), brown butter noodles (also loaded with butter), dried sweet corn, mashed potatoes & gravy (just okay). The service was not very attentive (unlike at GnP) - had to ask for refills when things ran out and empty dishes were not taken away until the very end of the meal. For dessert, you pick off a dessert cart that is wheeled over to your table. You can pick more than one but unlike GnP, these desserts are not left on your table for you to serve yourself. You are served once by your server. We had our choice of shoo-fly pie (Amish staple - molasses pie), sour cream apple pie, regular apple pie, some sort of dense blueberry cake, pound cake and we were given a bowl of vanilla ice cream to share amongst the table with a bottle of hershey chocolate syrup and rainbow jimmies (i.e. sprinkles). All in all, the atmosphere here at PnF is "fancier" indeed than GnP, and I like the taste of their chicken a bit more, but given the choice, I'd rather head back to GnP next time if for nothing else but the better service (and chicken salad and milk that I think was missing from the PnF experience). No matter what your choice, be sure to wear pants with an elastic waistline. If you need help finding a good pair of these, see my review on Lululemon!

Big dinning room. If doing the family style, they match you up in order to fill a table of 8 or more. This gives them an ability to serve 2 of some dishes and large plates of others. It is basically served in three courses, salad-main-desert. The salad has a thick Italian type dressing. Also served are picked veg, rolls and apple butter and the most delicious frosted raisin bread. The main is very crisp chicken, well seasoned sliced beef, a very smooth textured not overly seasoned sausage and forgettable sides of a corn dish, mash potatoes/gravy, chicken dumplings and veg. I stuck to the chicken and potato theme. Finally desert was all you can eat vanilla ice cream which a bottle of chocolate sauce and sprinkles was set. However, it was one slice of shoefly, chocolate, apple crisp or apple sour milk pie. The shoefly is interesting, but the apple milk pie was very good. The apples used in the crisp and pie were great. Service was friendly, but can get a little slow especially refills.

We had to wait a long time to be seated even though the place was half empty. Seems like they were severely understaffed (everything else in the area had an hour or more wait as well. Amish night life is really popping on friday nights huh?) We didn't go for family dinner option because the wait for that was around 1 hour as opposed to 30 minutes for the traditional style dining. Once we were seated though the food came out quickly and the waitress was extremely nice. The food was mediocre but hearty enough that we didn't really complain and gobbled it down quickly. I had the veggie chilli soup which was good, but the turkey platter was really lacking. The turkey was totally bland. Gravy and mashed pototoes made it quite tolerable. It was my first time trying shoofly pie, but it was quite good (but since I haven't tried it anywhere else I can't say with certainty). It's not a bad place to go if everything in the area has obnoxiously long wait times but we probably won't return here again.

If you want all you can eat, go here. If you want clogged arteries, go here. If you want good old fashioned Amish cooking, go here. I can't say enough amazing things about this place. About $20 per person, they ask you a few questions such as what you want to drink. Then after they delivery droves of food on a cart, they let you go to town, then come back and ask another question: Do you want more? The meals are served in three courses: Appetizing bread and jams, then the mail meal comes, then your choice of pies and ice cream. How the hell do they stay in business? The food was amazing. I can't believe how much I ate. A meal like this would go for $40 bucks in southern California. I almost want to open one of these places up here in California!

After being disappointed from seeing segways rolling around Lancaster, PA when I was expecting to see Amish folks, we drove to this place as a last ditch hope to do something relatively Amish before leaving. I ordered the chicken pot pie for lunch. The serving was pretty decently sized. However, I was a bit disappointed in the flavor, as it tasted a bit more bland than I was expecting. In addition, the food was lukewarm at best, not the pipping hot food that I had been hoping for. Price was pretty decent for the amount of food that you get and the number of arteries you'll clog in the process. Service staff was also really courteous to customers. Would definitely recommend trying this place for people who didn't find the amish experience they were expecting in Lancaster, PA.

Loosen up your belt for this meal. Food was very good. Started off with bread and rolls with apple butter. Then they brought coleslaw pickled vegetables and lemonade or ice tea. Main meal included roast beef chicken corn noodles potatoes and sausage. Then came desert which included ice cream and your choice of sho fly pie or apple pie. Much better than any all you can eat restaurant that I have been to. Tables where clean floor was not. Understandable for the amount of food and people coming through restaurant. Bathrooms were dirty. I don't care for the seating arrangements you share you table and food with another family. Overall experience was very good highly recommend this restaurant.

4 of us went here for dinner. myself, two gluttonous male friends and one equally gluttonous female friend. we'd been hiking all day in the hopes of working up appetites big enough for UNLIMITED FAMILY STYLE PENNSYLVANIA DUTCH FOOD!!!! we sat with a young family who alternated between fascination and disgust at our seemingly endless stomachs and childlike excitement every time more food was brought to the table.. the girl just kept bringing us fried chicken, mashed potatoes, chicken and dumplings, baked ham, egg noodles with browned butter, green beans, corn, baked beans, chow chow, macaroni salad.......then for dessert there was shoefly pie and apple tarts a la mode!!!!!!! it was kinda unbelievable. and utterly delicious. about an hour later here's what became of the 4 of us: friend #1 laid down on a bench outside in front of the restaurant. at first writhing and moaning and then napping. friend #2 literally had to go to the bathroom to try to make himself vomit because he'd stuffed 3 weeks of food into his body friend #3 disappeared for a good 20 minutes...i then found her wandering aimlessly, sluggishly through the gift shop...glassy eyed and almost totally unresponsive. me....food drunk i too wandered through the gift shop wondering if i'd ever eat again....

I used to love this place, but some of the changes they have made over time has caused me to remove it from the rotation when visiting Lancaster. They used to be a family style (everyone eats together) restaurant that served a delicious menu of PA Dutch country favorites. It was a great place to meet new people and enjoy some classic country food. They now no longer seat people family style and have divided their classic menu into two separate menus served on alternating nights. This means that you have to eat there twice now to experience all the different foods! The prices have remained as high as they were even though the quantity has decreased. If you asked me the quality has gone down immensely as well. The last time we ate there the food was very salty and no longer had that home made feel. We ended up eating at a fast food joint after we left because so much of the meal was just not edible. Try Good and Plenty instead! They still seat family style and have maintained their quality over the years.
